Albion Online Fan Concept
My goal with this project is to see how I can use my skills to improve the visual design elements of Albion Online. To achieve this, I set out to solve an “issue” I’ve found as a player of the game. The issue I’ve found is that quite a number of status effects in the game use the same 2D UI icon for slightly different status effects. This has caused me often get confused because I wasn’t sure which exact status effect was applied to me or one of my enemies in the game. To fix this issue, I created two new status effect icons for the biggest offenders of the problem.
For the first icon I chose the “Mercenary Jacket” icon in the game. This icon is currently used for multiple different effects, such as providing a life steal ability and increasing auto attack damage for a certain amount of time. This can be very confusing. So I decided to allocate the already existing icon to the auto attack damage buff, and create a new icon for the activated ability of the Mercenary Jacket, that also better resembles its effect of providing life steal when hitting enemies.
For the second icon redesign, I chose the icon that is shown while the invisibility effect is active. This icon is used for all types of invisibility in the game, which I think can be quite confusing. I decided to create a custom icon for when the player consumes an invisibility potion.
